A video clip of Khabib Nurmagomedov went viral on social media. Former UFC lightweight champion Khabib was kicked off the plane after an argument with a flight attendant.
The flight attendant asked Khabib to get off the plane if he didn’t want to move seats, because she felt that another cabin crew member was uncomfortable. Khabib was known to be sitting in a seat near the emergency door.
Khabib admitted that he was ready to help the cabin crew to open the emergency door, if something unwanted happened. Khabib remained calm and refused to move, but finally ‘The Eagle’ obeyed the cabin crew’s words to get off the plane!
Through his social media, Khabib Nurmagomedov gave clarification. Khabib admitted that there was discrimination!
“First of all, I need to clarify that it was @flyfrontier not AlaskaAir,” he wrote.
“The lady (cabin crew-ed) came to me with very rude questions from the beginning, even though I speak English very well and can understand everything and agreed to help. She still insisted on getting me out of my seat. What was the basis for that, race, nationality or something else, I’m not sure,”
“But after 2 minutes of conversation, she called security and I was taken off this plane, after 1.5 hours I boarded another airline and left for my destination. I tried my best to stay calm and respectful as you can see in the video. But those crew members can do better next time and be nice to the passengers,” he concluded.
Frontier Airlines took turns to provide clarification. According to him, the viral footage was incomplete and still blamed Khabib for not wanting to help the cabin crew.
“On January 11, 2025, as Flight 4401 from Las Vegas to San Francisco prepared to depart, a flight attendant began her usual briefing asking for assistance from passengers in the emergency exit row. Passenger Khabib Nurmagomedov, seated there, was asked multiple times if he was willing and able to assist in the event of an emergency. According to the flight attendant, Nurmagomedov did not respond, despite repeated attempts, which would have put him out of compliance with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) requirements. The flight attendant informed Nurmagomedov that he could be moved to another upgraded seat or exit the aircraft,” the statement read.
“The video circulating on social media platforms does not capture the full interaction, and instead shows subsequent interactions after the gate agent entered the aircraft and reiterated the choice to be seated again. Due to the passenger’s initial indifference and repeated refusal to change seats, he was asked to deplane in accordance with airline and FAA policy. The decision to deplane a customer was unrelated to his ethnicity and we have refunded him and his fellow travelers for their flights,” it wrote.
Frontier Airlines has been branded Islamophobic by netizens. After further investigation, it turns out that the airline is one of the most complained about airlines in the US due to discrimination and lateness.
